Violinist

Mrs. Costea, born in Romania, began playing violin at the early age of five.
During her childhood, she won several competitions like “Golden Lira” (1990 until 1993), “Mozart” (1992) and Stresa (Italy) (1986).
In 1993, she wins a scholarship at the Specialization High School of Music in Saluzzo (Italy) where she studies with prof. Mariana Sirbu.
In 1994, she graduates cum laude at the High School of Arts O. Bancila (Iasi-Romania) with M° Elena Pirvu. In 1996, she graduates cum laude at the Conservatorio G. Rossini (Pesaro-Italy) and she wins the Competition “Un violino per sognare” thanks to which she studies with M° Vadim Brodsky.
Between 1996 and 2000 she studies with M° Salvatore Accardo at the “Walter Stauffer” Academy in Cremona (Italy). During this period she wins the international competition “L. Perosi” (Biella-Italy) and she takes the position of concertmaster with Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta and Orchestra Internazionale d’’Italia with whom she records a CD as a soloist.
Starting from 2002 till today Mrs. Costea led the following orchestras: BBC Symphony (UK), Royal Philarmonic (UK), Foundation Gulbenkian (Lisbon, Portugal), Stanislavskij Theater (Moscow, Russia), San Carlo Theater (Naples, Italy), Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala (Milano, Italy – M.o Daniel Harding) the Orchestre, Suisse Romande (M.o Charles Dutoit) and becomes member of London Philharmonic Orchestra (UK) as Leader of Second Violins (Principal conductor Kurt Masur).
From 2000 till today she is the official Concertmaster and Soloist of Filarmonica “Arturo Toscanini” in Parma Italy working with conductor like M.o Lorin Maazel, M.o George Pretre, M.o Jurai Valcuha, M.o Tugan Sokhiev, M.o Vladimir Jorowski, M.o Carlo Rizzi, M.o Roberto Abbado, M.o Ton Koopman, M.o Kazushi Ono, M.o James Conlon, M.o Yoel Levi, M.o Yves Abel, M.o Stephane Denève, M.o Yuri Temirkanov, M.o Dmitri Kitaenko, M.o Sergej Boreiko, M.o Steven Mercurio.
In 2006, she records for the Arsus agency (Verona) a CD with Orchestra Sinfonica di Latina (Italy) (music by Sarasate and Saint Saens) and a DVD with the pianist Victor Derevianko (music by Bach, Tartini, and Paganini).
From 2018 she collaborates with Orchestra Maggio Fiorentino (Florence, Italy – principal conductor M° Fabio Luisi).
In 2006 and 2007she is invited by M.o Charles Dutoit to teach young musicians in the CISMA (China), and to play chamber music with leading players from around the world. In 2008, she has been invited to Lindenbaum Festival in Seoul (Korea).
In 2009, she records a CD for the Pentatone Classics with Orchestra of Foundation Gulbenkian, conductor M.o Lawrence Foster (Bartok, Violin Rhapsodies).
In the last seasons she has performed, as soloist, masterpieces from baroque and romantic repertoire like Vivaldi (Four Seasons), Giuseppe Tartini’s “Il trillo del diavolo”, Bach (violin concertos and the complete Sonate & Partite), Paganini, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms’s violin concertos and also works from the 19th century repertoire such as Kurt Weill’s violin concerto, Leonard Bernstein’s violin serenade, John Corigliano’s cinematic Red Violin concerto, Samuel Barber’s violin concerto, Castelnuovo¬-Tedesco concerto nr. 2 I Profeti and Erich W. Korngold violin concerto.
